Becoming a member of Hillside Church means that one also becomes a member of the United Methodist Denomination. United Methodists are Christians whose foundational beliefs may be read in another of our informational pamphlets.
Before one may be accepted into membership one must have been baptized at some point in one’s life. If baptism has not occurred then it must be performed upon the individual before membership may be completed. Baptism is performed with water by sprinkling, pouring or immersion. After one is baptized, one may join Hillside in essentially 3 ways:
Profession of Faith This is simply what takes place when an individual has had an experience of God, whether subtle or dramatic, and desires to express his/her faith by becoming a member. He/she is joining because God has done something wonderful in her life.
Confirmation Confirmation is a course of study that takes place usually in the teenage years. A youth is taught the basics of the Christian faith, scriptures and how to have a relationship with Jesus Christ. Upon completion of the study the class is presented for confirmation and accepted as members of the congregation.
Transfer of Membership This is a matter of accepting a person or family’s membership from another church and/or Christian denomination. Official forms are printed up notifying the former church of the person’s desire to be a member of Hillside.
